On normal the game is a breeze with the exception of the later bosses. The game features two difficulty settings, normal and hard. The gameplay, for the most part, is fun yet simple. It is also smart thinking from the developers to include a cooldown timer to that dodge so that players can’t abuse infinite SP/multiple slow motions. Players also have access to dodging, which is done just before receiving an enemy attack will slow time as well as give the player 3 gauges of SP. Leo is the jack of all trades while being able to take of enemies with super armor, Bahet is great at keeping enemies in place while gathering them for combos and Le Viada is useful at setting traps and peeling the highest armor of enemies. The player, in contrast, have three different guardians, whom each specializes in handling a different type of situation. They can shoot, teleport, disappear into the water, have super armor, have very short I-frames or jump off-screen before attacking. Enemy variety is good and keeps the player interested in the game. This can be used with all chains and can even be further changed with aerials. As a result, there are more combos than usual as players can chain a wide arrange like X, Y, Y or alternately X, Y, B. While most hack-n-slash games follow the X and Y button chain of attacks while reserving the B for special-cinematics attacks, Dusk Diver incorporates it into the chain. All of those corresponding to the X, Y and B buttons respectively.
There are light, heavy and special attacks. However, they bring massive battles and huge rosters of playable characters to the table that make the games feel busy and exciting in a way that Dusk Divers (with only one directly playable character) does not.
Personally, I quite like the Warriors games. You have a few combos, but at the end of the day, mashing heavy and light attack gets the job done with very little effort. It plays similar to a Dynasty Warriors combat system. Professional voiceovers, making the characters come alive With experienced voiceovers dubbing the right characters in both Japanese and Mandarin, you can choose your preferred language in game at anytime. “Ximending” or to slay the Phantoms in the hidden world, “Youshanding”.
